Can I make an antenna that will pick up free-to-air channels?

Popular Mechanics' design for a home made rabbit-ears antenna demands just a couple materials. Two 1 x 4 pine panels are needed. The larger one functions as the tower to which the ears are attached, together with smaller you're the antenna's base.

Eight rabbit ears tend to be created by bending 12-gauge copper line into intense angles. The ears tend to be connected to the tower with screws and washers. Four ears are positioned on each side of the face for the tower board, about an inch in through the edges. Two extra screws and washers tend to be driven to the board, about halfway up.

Phasing bars, that are longer lengths of copper line, tend to be passed beneath the washers that keep the ears down, and so they touch both edges of every ear's angle. The bars are arranged in a pattern that carries the transmission signals from one ear to another.

Eventually, a transformer is attached to the two additional screws which were driven into the board. The phasing pubs in addition pass under those screws. The transformer helps increase the transmission signals, therefore improving the antenna's reception.
