HDTV antenna Guide
Antenna Style Options
HDTV antennas are priced at around $20 to $200 and can be bought in several different kind facets:
- Flat antennas – are positioned indoors, frequently attached to house windows or walls
- Table-top antennas – Are little and put indoors on a flat surface
- Attic mount antennas – Are attached within your home’s attic
- Roof mount/outdoor antennas – Are attached to the outside of your house, either on top or any other framework like a-pole or tower
- DIY versions – Some folks are also “MacGyver”-ing their particular antennas from programs on the internet similar to this one and also this one
Indoor antennas would be best for everyone residing in towns, closest toward broadcast towers. If you live into the suburbs or perhaps the country, further out of the broadcast towers, a lot more likely its that you’ll should move up to an attic or roof mount option which are in addition higher priced.
Many antenna manufacturer’s sites (like Winegard, Mohu and AntennasDirect) consist of searchable databases that will help you decide on which of these services and products is most beneficial for the location.
Amplified or Unamplified?
One of the ways for antennas to overcome size or level disadvantages is to try using electronic amplification. Signal amplifiers are either built in (many interior antennas currently consist of this) or can be separate devices put in involving the antenna and your Tablo. If you reside in the suburbs or past, you really need to surely consider an amplified antenna.
Uni-Directional or Multi/Omni-Directional?
A huge element of acquiring the essential channels possible with your antenna is knowing where your neighborhood broadcast towers are found. If they’re clustered collectively you can easily point a uni-directional antenna at broadcast tower source and you ought to get a very good sign.
But in certain locations there could be several broadcast towers in different parts of the town for different broadcasters. For example, those living across the edge may attempt to pick up signals from towers found in the usa and Canada to obtain the widest channel selection. To get both sets of channels, you’d need an omni-directional antenna that may ‘see’ both North and Southern simultaneously.

I don't have cable or satellite, we hooked outdoor antenna up and have had great reception but not now, WHY!!? | Yahoo Answers
ever since television stations went digital we have had our televisions hooked up to an outdoor antenna and have gotten great reception until about two weeks ago now we have no signal, why has this happened and can we do anything to correct it???
Check the cable. You may have had a hungry rat or squirrel chewing on your wires. If that doesn't reveal any problem, plug the antenna input into a different TV and see if that works. If so, it's your TV. If not, it's the antenna or cable. If the first two fixes don't work, try running a second cable from the antenna to the TV to completely bypass the original cable. Finally, verify that the antenna is positioned properly and didn't get blown off line or something.
